Discover What’s Next for Ostendo: Smarter, Faster, and More Flexible Than Ever!

Big things are coming to Ostendo in the coming weeks with the release of Update 243! The new Ostendo Cloud option is on its way, packed with powerful features designed to make your business smarter and more agile. Here’s what you can look forward to.

the new ostendo continuum framework

  • The Continuum Edition of Ostendo represents far more than a software upgrade — it marks a major evolution in the technology behind the platform. The latest release of Ostendo Continuum is powered by an advanced technology architecture known as OHJA (pronounced “Oh-Ya”) — a powerful four-layer tech stack designed for performance, scalability, and continuous innovation. Performance Upgrades with Firebird 5

  • The new release runs on Firebird 5, bringing better performance and smarter CPU management. More business logic now runs on the server, so Ostendo is faster and more customizable than ever.

Ostendo Cloud Option: Flexibility Without the Extra Cost

  • No Price Hike: The Ostendo license price stays the same—no switch to a subscription model. That means you get cloud capabilities at a fraction of the cost of other systems.
  • Choose Your Setup: Host your database in the cloud, keep it on-premise, or mix and match using your server to host Ostendo cloud. Remote users can log in from anywhere, giving you true flexibility.

installation options for ostendo

  1. You can run Ostendo on your server or have it hosted on our managed hosted service.
  2. On your server, you can install Ostendo in HTTPS mode, which means it is hosting Ostendo online and users can connect with it directly over the internet.
  3. Alternatively, you can install Ostendo in TCP/IP mode (as it is now) with users not able to connect with it directly over the internet.

Cloud Licensing Made Simple

  • Starting with Ostendo Continuum, licencing is cloud-based. Each company database gets a unique ID, validated instantly online. No more manually applying for license keys—changes to user counts or expiry dates happen in real time.

Exciting New Functions

User Defined Defaults

  • This is a new feature that allows the definition of Default Field values for most tables in the database. The idea is that when either inserting a new record, or updating an existing one, fields values can be defaulted with or without conditions.
  • For example, set up rules to automatically fill in fields based on your own conditions—like assigning sales reps or tracking codes with zero manual effort.

User Defined Validations

  • Rules can be setup to validate field values on a new or updated record.
  • For example, ensure data quality by requiring key info (like email addresses or suppliers) before records are saved.

User Defined Actions

  • Rules can be setup to trigger an action.
  • For example trigger emails, create call tickets, or add history notes automatically when certain conditions are met.

User Security

  • New user security features let you set password rules and enforce strong credentials.

Business Process Models (Coming soon)

  • Document your business processes right inside Ostendo. Capture screenshots, add notes, and publish guides for your team—online or as PDFs. Control who can see what for added security.

Two Bin Stock Control

  • Manage high-volume, low-value items with a simple two-bin Kanban system. When one bin is empty, the next takes over. You can use a kanban card to reorder in Ostendo—no more stockouts or manual tracking.
  • There will an option to backflush “two bin” items only on assembly order if they are specified in a Bill of Materials.

Inventory Enhancements

  • The inventory screen now shows up to 30 periods, with clear red alerts for negative stock.

Email Enhancements

  • Emailing reports is now online—no more Outlook integration needed. Customize signatures and streamline communications with URL links for attachments.
  • Connect emails directly with your Microsoft 365 account so that sent items appear in your Sent Items.
  • Alternatively, send emails through Amazon Web Services instead.

changes to linked files

  • The way files are linked to Ostendo is changing when Ostendo is installed in HTTPS mode. They will no longer be linked from a folder structure on your server but will be stored in an Ostendo folder with an encrypted name. This means you will view linked files in Ostendo and not in your folder structure. This enables these files to be emailed with a link to download them.
  • If Ostendo remains installed in TCP/IP mode you can still link files exactly as you do now.

What’s Coming Soon?

  • User-defined HTML entry screens will be progressively rolled out.
  • Business process automation models.
  • Business Intelligence dashboards.
  • Integration with leading AI services: ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek, Grok, Claude, Perplexity, Mistral, and more.
  • E-Invoicing to meet Australian and New Zealand compliance.
